Are pub juke boxes too noisy?

From the News & Star, UK

Pubs in part of Australia have been ordered to turn down the music so that drinkers can talk without shouting. So, Are pub juke boxes too noisy?

Yes, of course they are. You have to be able to chat to the person sitting next to you. That’s what it’s about, isn’t it? -Joseph Hodgson, 74, Silloth

Yes, you can’t have a crack in the pub when it’s on. -Stephen Ashcroft, 45, Workington

No, I’d put money in for one of my favourite songs. It helps the atmosphere. -Louise Edgar, 23, Annan

It depends what you’re out for but even if I was meeting up for a chat I’d like the music to be on in the background. -Emma Edgar, 26, Annan

No, I think they’re OK. They help with the atmosphere in the pub. -Grace Nickel, 43, Gretna

No, I love them. I’ll wait for someone else to put the songs on but the pub isn’t the same without some music on. -Alastair Howard, 19, Lockerbie

Any pub juke box is too noisy for me. I absolutely loathe them. -Jim Chapple, 65, Cockermouth

I run a pub and we don’t have a juke box. As far as I’m concerned, people come in for the crack, not the music. -Glenn Ireland, 60, Kirkgate, Cockermouth

Juke boxes are fine for the people who put the money in to request the song – but not for anyone else. -Mike Askey, 46, Kirkgate, Cockermouth

Organ Stop Pizza In Mesa Arizona

CD Jukeboxes

Vinyl is great but if you prefer to go digital, it does give you a much greater range of available sizes for your juke, including tabletop or wall mounted models. And you won't have to worry about gouging up your collection of doo-wop 45s with one of those oh-so-heavy vintage needles.

Try these guys for a selection of contemporary CD jukeboxes.
